What we do on a typical meeting night

  • We meet at 7:30 for a prompt 7:45pm start

  • Club Business

  • There are two or three prepared speeches (5-10 mins each) relating to the ASC Speakers Guide assignments*

  • The speeches are then evaluated with helpful learning points

  • Break for refreshments in the bar

  • Topics Session; 2-minute impromptu speeches

  • Topics evaluation with hints for improvement

  • General evaluation of the evening (Didn't we do well!)

No one is under any pressure to join in until they feel ready, and we welcome a non-participating audience.

*We follow the ASC learning programme of 10 specific assignments which are found in the ASC Speakers Guide.

  1. Making a Start/Icebreaker

  2. Mean What You Say

  3. Speech Construction

  4. Use of Gestures

  5. Use Your Voice

  6. Vocabulary and Word Pictures

  7. Use of Notes

  8. Use of Humour

  9. Audience Rapport

  10. The Masterpiece

Members complete these assignments at their own pace when they feel prepared.
