Swindon Speakers Knock,em Dead!

Swindon SC‘s Silver Anniversary

 Thanks to everybody who made our 25th Anniversary Charter Dinner in March such a success! Good food and elegant surroundings in the Royal Agricultural College, Cirencester, old and new friends and the vastly entertaining speeches showed that Swindon Speakers Club is the place to be. We were delighted to have Gwyn Redgers, the ASC National President, as our keynote speaker, especially as he and several other guests had been present at Swindon’s inaugural meeting in the 1980s.

The company sparkled with each Swindon member sporting a splash of silver, and of course a lot of reminiscing went on along the lines of ‘being “stoned” at 11 am at the National Conference’ and ‘going to The Dogs with Muriel’ – let’s hope the next 25 years will be just as exciting!

Swindon Ranters

On 1 May Shirley Ludford of Swindon Community Radio came along to give us some invaluable tips on what to do if you are invited into a radio studio to give an interview:

• Arrive early to familiarise yourself with your surroundings
• Prepare what you want to say with a bullet-point list – but don’t read a script
• Take control of the interview so that you get your message across
• Don’t be stampeded into talking about subjects you know nothing about

- And many other valuable insights and anecdotes of life in front of the ‘mike’.  In return several of us did a 3-minute rant on our pet peeve, to be broadcast on Mondays on the Old Duffers’ Club between 11.00 & 12.00 on FM 105.5.
