Visitor wins trophy

December excitement Photo of new member David receiving member's pin from president Sue

After another new member David, passed his A1 and received his member’s pin at the end of November, what was in store for us in December?

It is wonderful to have visitors attend our meeting.

Even more so, when they are willing to take the challenge to step up and speak, unprepared on a topic they are given, just a few minutes before hand.

When one of these guests performs as well or even better than some of the members, it is only fitting that they should receive the trophy for the best performance of the evening.

Well done Sarah-Jane and welcome to to the group now you are a fully fledged member.

So, if you have considered coming along as a visitor, you will be very welcome and who know where it might take you.

Remember your first two visits are free of charge.

Just come along and join the excitement!

As you will see from the meeting notes, we finished off our 20th Dec meeting, with the President’s Revels. Working in groups of three, each person had to either start, follow or end a story related to Christmas.

The president gave us the first line.

One was a story staring with: ‘all the presents were in the boot of the car’ ended like this picture taken a couple of days after the meeting.

New 2018-19 Season

September is coming around fast. The committee have been hard at work sorting, organising and arranging our new season.

On 6th September, we will be back at The Blunsdon House Hotel, meeting at 7.30pm for our first meeting.

This year, we have a new club president and team of committee members all wanting to make this year bigger and better than the last.

New members

For everyone who has ever wanted to come and has felt a little frightened, we love welcoming new members.

We are expecting a few new members to come to our first meeting, we will always make time to chat and answer any questions.

Value for Money

We always have been, and will always be exception value to money.

New members are welcome on a trial basis. Come and visit our club for 2 meetings and see how you get on.

After the 2 visits, membership is only £40 that is for the entire year.

There are no additional meeting payments (only additional outlay is an ASC Speaker manual which is only £10 and can be purchased when ready).

We are Swindon’s best kept speaker secret and we are about to kick off our new year.

New dates added!

Open for the summer.

Swindon Speakers have always closed over the summer, to get a feel for a whole new year (think of it like the summer school holidays) but this year we are going against tradition!

Swindon Speakers are here for our members and after our last AGM and a very keen bunch of speakers, we have decided to keep our club open over the summer.

Now to make sure that we do not ‘over egg’ our members, and we are aware of holidays, children and other summer commitments such as Bar-Be-Ques so we have decided to roll out slowly at first. We are going to stay open over July with a view to run through August as well. So we want you to add;

13th July 2017

27th July 2017

– to your diaries. We will still run the club from 7.30pm until 10.00pm and we will continue to meet at The Blunsdon House Hotel, Swindon. New members are more than welcome to come and try out our new programme for free (and to stay on for our next season if you like us).

As the Summer holidays are a new thing to us, we also want to try something new at the club. For the 2 months over summer we are going to be calling our summer meetings “Speaker Extra.” We want to be doing less of the formal club business and instead concentrate on delivering more training and allowing Assessment speeches to be practised and completed. These extra dates will allow the club to set up for a great 2017-2018!

Dress code will be summer wear only, sandals and surf boards are optional.

It will be great to see you all there!
