Dorothy, as social secretary, is trying to recruit a foursome to take part in the national speakers’ competition in Derby on 21st October. The idea is that the four people do a 10-minute talk between them on any subject. The catch is that the three words “three”, “piece”, and “suite” have each to be mentioned twice in the talk. That’s all there is to it. The four people would have to rehearse in someone’s house over summer. I understand that if the foursome is arranged it has to be quite quickly, because rooms for the overnight stay on the 21st in the hotel in Derby have to be booked very soon. If you would like to take part, or would like just to go along and watch, please contact Dorothy directly, or email me at firstname.lastname@example.org and I will pass your name on to Dorothy.
The Speakers Club had its summer social event last night. Traditional British weather prevented us having an outside barbecue party (though some brave souls ventured out anyway). However, we all enjoyed food and drink indoors at Wendy’s beautiful house. Most members were there and everyone seemed to have a very good time, but Ian was not wearing shorts as promised, which disappointed some. Justine got a man hug from Brian that squashed her boobs, and Dorothy spent a lot of time trying to recruit a foursome for a national competition in October, which I’ll describe in the next post. Dorothy also brought some wonderful cheese scones, and someone brought some delicious chocolate tart. Some of us made friends with Wendy’s sociable little Shih Tzu dog. I got two kisses from the man who does the extras, and the other Sandra made some the fantastic home-made tapenade. Gary has decided he is going to join the Club. No-one got drunk as far as I know, though Jin Jin had a good try. All in all, a fun night.
